February 16th: Complete long term still life drawings and review materials for perspective assignment.

February 18th:  First day of anatomical study:

Rib Cage, Spine and Pelvis (block in and detail)
Bones of the Leg
Femur, Patella, Tibia, Fibula, Foot (block in only)

Assignments and information about classes for the week of February 8th.

February 9th: Work on long term still life drawings (session 4)

February 11th: Complete long term drawing (session 5). Introduction to perspective. Group crit for homework project assigned February 4th.

Assignment: Due Tuesday the 16th: Bring in several photos of one and two point perspective, tracing paper, ruler, pencils and drawing paper. We will discuss the project on the 11th.

Assignments and information about classes for the week of February 1st.

February 2nd: Long Term Drawing session 2

Assignment 2:  Read: How do you learn to be an artist?

February 4th: Long Term Drawing session 3 and short lecture on composition.

Assignment 3: Put together a group of art works 4 or 5 and sketch their plan on top of them. Use tracing paper if you find it useful. Stress the overall organizational directions of a drawing, the movement over the page following relationship directions. Pay attention to main diagonals and simple shape relationships. This assignment is due February 11th for group crit.

Drawing 2 / January 26th and 28th

Assignments and information about classes for the week of January 25th.

January 26th:  Introduction to Tone: We will begin a long term drawing with linear and tonal thumbnail studies.

January 28th: We will begin work on a larger more developed tonal drawing (session 1). You will need your mid tone gray charcoal paper and soft willow charcoal, also charcoal pencils: White and Black (medium and soft).

 

Drawing 2 / January 19th and 21st

Assignments and information about classes for the week of January 18th.

January 19th:  Introduction and discussion of syllabus and materials. We will work from a still life and discuss general compositional guidelines. You will need  your drawing paper pad (see materials list in syllabus) eraser and pencils (HB, B).  We will do both linear and tonal thumbnails exploring compositional designs and their effects.

January 21st: We will work on larger more developed tonal sketches followed by a group crit of your class work from Tuesday and Thursday.

 Assignments: Make greyscale chart and shadow study of sphere for class on Tuesday January 26th.
