Assignments and information about classes for the week of April 23rd.
April 24th: We will continue with the new set up this week. The 26th is the NYC bus trip, no class. Make sure you are signedup for final reviews, sign up sheet will be posted on Tuesday. I will meet with you next week on Tuesday and Thursday May 1st and 3rd, you will need all the work from this semester, paintings from class and completed homework assignments. Also, if you need assistance with your copy project I can help you on Tuesday.
Assignments and information about classes for the week of April 16th
April 17th and 19th: Tuesday will be the first day on the new setup. You will need a new canvas 18″x 24″ or larger and all your colors. This will be the the last painting of the semester. Regular class sessions and final reviews will be on the 1st and 3rd of May. I will list what you need for finals on next weeks blog. If you need help with your copy project bring it into class and we can review your work.
Assignments and information about classes for the week of April 9th
April 10th and 12th : Work on complementary set ups started last week will continue on Tuesday. We will work on your copy project on Thursday the 12th. You should have made some progress on your project, drawing and basic block in. Bring in your copy and the reproduction you are working on and any materials you will need to paint in class.
Assignments and information about classes for the week of April 2nd.
April 3rd and 5th: Work on complementary set ups will continue this week.
We will have a class day to work on your copy project on Tuesday April 10th, bring in your copy and reference photos, paint etc… you should be about half way through the project at that point. Have the image transferred to your canvas and a block in to get values and rough color. I’m looking forward to seeing the progress on everyone’s copy project!
Assignments and information about classes for the week of March 26th
March 27th and 29th: This week we will begin our second complimentary color painting. You will need a new canvas and the palette of colors used last week.
COPY PROJECT: Please have your B/W sketch for class on Tuesday 3/27, you will also need dimensions of the image you plan to copy, and the dimensions of the canvas you will use. I will go over proportions and explain how to transfer an image to your canvas. Completed projects are due at final review (May 1st and 3rd).
Assignments and information about classes for the week of March 19th
March 20th and 22nd: On Tuesday and Thursday we will continue work on your first complimentary color painting. Next week we will begin a new painting using a second complimentary pair. Your black and white small study for the copy project will now be due the 27th. Sometime during the week meet with me individually to plan out your copy size and proportions. You will need to know the size of the image you are going to copy and the size of your canvas.

Mid terms this week!
March 6th and 8th: I will meet with each of you to review your work during regular class sessions. Please check all seven posts previous to this one and review to make sure you have all assignments.
We will spend two more classes on the first complementary setups, Tuesday the 13th we will change to a new pair. You will need a new canvas and the same paints you used for the last painting. I will meet with each of you this week for mid-term and will be looking at your paintings from class, homework assignments and your visual library.
Assignment: Do a small black and white study of your chosen copy project. We will choose a work for the project together at your midterm review. The study will be due March 20th and is part of a larger project that will be posted in the next few weeks.
Assignments and information for classes for the week of February 26th
Please bring a sheet of primed paper or an 8×10 canvas board on Tuesday, we will be making a color wheel with our new colors!
February 27th and March 1st: We will start working on complementary colors this week choosing between setups with red/green, blue/orange, and yellow/violet complementary pairs. In two weeks you will pick a different pair for your second painting. Bring a 16″ x 20″ or larger canvas. Colors will vary depending on which pair you choose, so bring the complete selection of colors below. Notice: we will leave off the earth colors, they can be mixed down from the high intensity colors.
S2 Naphthol Red LT (37 ml) (or cadmium red medium S4)
Assignment: Create a color chart by mixing the grays between the three pairs of complementary colors: Red/Green, Yellow/Violet and Blue/Orange. Design the chart any way you want but you need to have at least seven intermediary steps between each pair of compliments. I will hand out a chart and give a demonstration on mixing complements on the 27th. Due: March 1st.
MID TERMS:
I will post a sign up sheet on the 27th. Next week, the 6th and 8th, I will meet briefly with each of you for a midterm review, (A sign up schedule will be available on Tuesday the 27th). We will look at all of your class work, home work and image library and choose a painting from your library or the library on this site for you to copy starting with a small b/w study.

February 20th and 22nd: We will continue working on limited palette paintings this week on both Tuesday and Thursday.
Next weeks we begin to work with a full palette. For Tuesday the 27th you will need a 16 x 20″ or larger canvas and the paint color below. Paint colors will vary depending on which complementary pair you choose so bring the complete selection of colors.
